# Instagram Video Downloader API

## Overview

The Instagram Video Downloader API turns links to public Instagram reels, video posts and carousels into direct MP4 links, without a login. One `POST /` call takes up to 5 links or bare shortcodes and returns, for each post, the video file with sound, every quality Instagram keeps (up to 1080p), the separate audio track, the thumbnail, the caption, the author and the like and comment counts. Carousels come back with one entry per video slide.

It is built for social media tool makers, content teams, archivists, researchers and automation builders who need the actual video file of a public post rather than an embed. Each result carries a `status` (and a `statusReason` when a post has no video), the post's `postType`, `takenAt`, `durationSeconds`, the original width and height and an `expiresAt` time for the Instagram CDN links, so you know how long you have to download the file.

## Features

* **One endpoint**: a single `POST /` call takes a list of reel, post or /tv/ links, or bare shortcodes.
* **Every quality**: the `qualities` array lists each rendition with its label (for example 1080p), width, height, bitrate, size in bytes and its own link.
* **Audio track**: `audioUrl` gives the sound on its own, for transcription or speech work.
* **Carousel support**: a carousel returns one entry per video in `videos`, with its `slide` number.
* **Post and author data**: caption, `takenAt`, likes, comments, `ownerUsername`, `ownerFullName` and `isVerified` with every result.
* **No login**: only public posts are read; profiles, stories and hashtag pages are not.
* **Rate limit**: up to 10 requests per second on every plan, up to 5 posts per request.

## Use Cases

* **Content repurposing**: pull your own or licensed reels in the best available quality for editing and reposting.
* **Archiving**: store campaign videos with their caption, date and engagement before they are edited or deleted.
* **Transcription and captioning**: hand `audioUrl` or `videoUrl` to a speech-to-text or subtitle step.
* **Research datasets**: collect public video posts with their metadata for media and social research.
* **No-code automation**: use the JSON output in Make, Zapier or n8n flows that process new reels.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market proxy at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/benthepythondev/instagram-video-downloader
```

### Authentication

Every request needs your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

### Endpoints

#### 1. Download Instagram videos

Returns a JSON array with one object per post: the post and author fields, the main `videoUrl`, `audioUrl` and `thumbnailUrl`, and a `videos` array with every video in the post and its available qualities.

**Method:** `POST`

**Endpoint:** `/`

**Parameters:**

| Name | In | Description | Type | Required | Default | Max Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| `postUrls` | body | Links to Instagram reels, posts or /tv/ videos (instagram.com/reel/..., /p/..., /tv/...) or bare shortcodes. Up to 5 per request. Profiles, stories and hashtag pages are not read. | array of strings | Yes | - | 5 items |

**Example Request:**

```bash
curl -X POST 'https://prod.api.market/api/v1/benthepythondev/instagram-video-downloader/' \
## Status Codes
| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 201 | Created | The run finished and the body is a JSON array with one object per post. Check each object's `status` and `statusReason`. |
| 400 | Bad Request | The JSON body cannot be read, or `postUrls` is missing or not an array of strings. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` header is missing or the key is not valid. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your key has no active subscription to this API, your plan quota is used up, or the endpoint is not part of your plan. |
| 404 | Not Found | The path is wrong. This API has one endpoint, `POST /`. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You sent more than 10 requests per second. Wait for the time in `Retry-After` and try again. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | The run failed on the provider side. Retry once; if it keeps failing, contact us. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | Instagram or the run platform is briefly unavailable. Retry after a short pause. |
## Rate Limits
Every plan allows up to 10 requests per second. Monthly quotas are 50 calls on Free (a 7-day trial), 1,500 on Basic, 10,000 on Pro and 34,000 on Mega, and each request counts as one call whatever it returns. Each request starts one live run, so an answer takes a few seconds (about 12 seconds in our test) and stops after 60 seconds with what it has. Going over 10 requests per second returns `429 Too Many Requests`. Throttle your client, back off when you get a 429 and honour the `Retry-After` header before retrying.
## FAQ
*   **How long do the download links work?**
    The links point to Instagram's own CDN and stop working at the time in `expiresAt`, usually one to two days later. Download the file before then, or call the API again for fresh links.
*   **Can I send a shortcode instead of a full link?**
    Yes. `postUrls` accepts full reel, post or /tv/ links, or the bare shortcode such as `DeC12b5uha9`.
*   **What happens with an image post?**
    You still get an object for it, and `statusReason` explains that the post has no video.
*   **Which quality is `videoUrl`?**
    `videoUrl` is the file with sound that Instagram plays by default. For a specific resolution, pick an entry from `videos[].qualities` by its `label` or `height`.
*   **How many posts can I send at once?**
    Up to 5 per request. Send several requests for more.
*   **Can it read private accounts or stories?**
    No. Only public posts are read, and profiles, stories and hashtag pages are not supported.
