# 🎭 Face Style Adaptation API (fofr Become Image)

## Overview
Become Image by fofr adapts a picture of a person's face into another image. Send a photo of the person as `image` and any picture as `image_to_become`; the model redraws the person in the look, colours and composition of that second picture.

It combines InstantID (to keep the person's identity) with a depth ControlNet (to follow the structure of the original photo). Each request returns a list of image URLs, 2 by default and up to 10.

## Features
- **Two images in, new images out**: `image` is the person, `image_to_become` is the picture they should become.
- **Identity control**: `instant_id_strength` sets how strongly the person's identity is kept.
- **Style control**: `image_to_become_strength` and `image_to_become_noise` set how strongly the target image's style is applied.
- **Structure control**: `control_depth_strength` sets how closely the result follows the depth of the original photo.
- **Prompt and negative prompt**: describe the subject with `prompt` (default `a person`) and list things to avoid with `negative_prompt`.
- **1 to 10 images per request** with `number_of_images` (default 2).
- **Seed**: fix the random seed to reproduce a result.

## Use Cases
1. **Stylised portraits**: turn a selfie into the style of a painting, poster or illustration.
2. **Avatars and profile art**: create a set of images of the same person in one artistic look.
3. **Creative apps**: let users pick any picture and see themselves "become" it.
4. **Character concepts**: place a real face into the visual style of a reference artwork.

## Visual Examples
### Example Input
Person (`image`):

![Become Image example input: photo of the person](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/become-image-input-api-market.webp)

Image to become (`image_to_become`):

![Become Image example input: the picture the person should become](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/become-image-input-2-api-market.webp)

Settings: `prompt` `a person`, `negative_prompt` empty, `prompt_strength` `2`, `number_of_images` `1`, `denoising_strength` `1`, `instant_id_strength` `1`, `image_to_become_noise` `0.3`, `control_depth_strength` `0.8`, `image_to_become_strength` `0.75`.

### Example Output

## Input Parameters
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Allowed values | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `image` | string (URL) | No | none |  | An image of a person to be converted |
| `image_to_become` | string (URL) | No | none |  | Any image to convert the person to |
| `prompt` | string | No | `a person` |  | Text prompt describing the subject |
| `negative_prompt` | string | No | `""` |  | Things you do not want in the image |
| `number_of_images` | integer | No | `2` | 1 to 10 | Number of images to generate |
| `denoising_strength` | number | No | `1` | 0 to 1 | How much of the original image of the person to keep. 1 fully replaces the original image, 0 keeps it unchanged |
| `prompt_strength` | number | No | `2` | 0 to 3 | Strength of the prompt (CFG scale). Higher values follow the prompt more strongly, lower values keep more likeness to the original |
| `control_depth_strength` | number | No | `0.8` | 0 to 1 | Strength of the depth ControlNet. Higher values make the depth of the original photo affect the output more |
| `instant_id_strength` | number | No | `1` | 0 to 1 | How strongly InstantID keeps the person's identity |
| `image_to_become_strength` | number | No | `0.75` | 0 to 1 | How strongly the style of `image_to_become` is applied |
| `image_to_become_noise` | number | No | `0.3` | 0 to 1 | How much noise to add to the style image before processing. Another way of controlling style strength |
| `seed` | integer | No | none |  | Fix the random seed for reproducibility |
| `disable_safety_checker` | boolean | No | `false` |  | Disable the safety checker for generated images |

`image` and `image_to_become` are not marked as required, but the model needs both to do its job.

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.067 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 request with up to 61 seconds of processing.** A request that takes longer is billed one more unit for each started 61-second block of processing time.
- **Example cost**: the example request above took 2.7 seconds of processing, so it used 1 unit = $0.067.
- Asking for more images with `number_of_images` takes longer; the price only rises if processing passes 61 seconds.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/adopt-face-images-api-fofr-become-image`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well. The first request after a quiet period can take more than a minute to start.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/adopt-face-images-api-fofr-become-image/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "8d0b076a2aff3904dfcec3253c778e0310a68f78483c4699c7fd800f3051d2b3",
      "image": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/become-image-input-api-market.webp",
      "prompt": "a person",
      "image_to_become": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/become-image-input-2-api-market.webp",
      "negative_prompt": "",
      "prompt_strength": 2,
      "number_of_images": 1,
      "control_depth_strength": 0.8,
      "image_to_become_strength": 0.75
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "406m129r5hrmt0d1ccpvj7cbj0",
  "version": "8d0b076a2aff3904dfcec3253c778e0310a68f78483c4699c7fd800f3051d2b3",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-22T10:34:30.454Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/adopt-face-images-api-fofr-become-image/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "406m129r5hrmt0d1ccpvj7cbj0",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": [
    "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/become-image-output-406m129r-api-market.jpg"
  ],
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-22T10:34:30.454Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-22T10:36:02.661Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-22T10:36:05.380Z"
}
```

`output` is a list of image URLs, one per generated image (`number_of_images`).

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a `number_of_images` above 10 or a `prompt_strength` above 3.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits
All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

## FAQ
- **What do I send as `image` and `image_to_become`?**
  - `image` is a photo of the person. `image_to_become` is any picture whose look the person should take on, such as a painting or illustration.
- **The result looks too much like the original photo. What do I change?**
  - Raise `image_to_become_strength` or `image_to_become_noise` to apply more of the target style, or lower `control_depth_strength` so the original photo's structure matters less.
- **The person is not recognisable. What do I change?**
  - Keep `instant_id_strength` high (the default is 1) and try a lower `prompt_strength` to keep more likeness.
- **How many images does one request return?**
  - `number_of_images`, from 1 to 10 (default 2). `output` is always a list of URLs.
- **How is a request billed?**
  - $0.067 for each started 61-second block of processing. The example took 2.7 seconds and cost $0.067.
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
