# 🎬 Video Captions and Text Overlay API (hjunior29 Video Text Generator)

## Overview
Video Text Generator is a video model published by hjunior29. Its developer describes it as generating animated captions and text overlays for social media videos.

Send a `video` URL. Use `text_overlays` to place your own text at set times, and `caption_style`, `caption_size`, `highlight_color` and `caption_position` to style the captions. The schema has no field for caption text, so the caption settings apply to the captions the model generates for the video. Each request returns the URL of one video.

## Features
- **Timed text overlays**: `text_overlays` is a JSON array (sent as a string) of items with `text`, `startMs` and `endMs`, plus optional `position`, `fontSize`, `color` and `backgroundColor`.
- **Two caption styles**: `classic` (text with a stroke) or `boxed` (words on background boxes, the default).
- **Highlighted word**: `highlight_color` sets the hex color of the highlighted word (default `#39E508`).
- **Placement in pixels**: `caption_position` and each overlay's `position` are distances from the bottom of the video in pixels.
- **Font size**: `caption_size` for captions (default 60) and `fontSize` per overlay.

## Use Cases
1. **Short-form social videos**: add a title and a call-out line at the start of a clip.
2. **Captioned clips**: style captions with a boxed or stroked look and a highlight color that matches a brand.
3. **Timed labels**: show a different line of text in each part of a video.
4. **Batch editing**: apply the same overlay layout to many videos from code.

## Visual Examples
### Example Input
A short ski video with two overlays: "SKI DAY" in white from 0 to 2 seconds, then "First run of the season" in gold (`#FFD700`) from 2.2 to 4.8 seconds, both 380 pixels from the bottom. Captions use the `boxed` style at size 60.

}

`text_overlays` items: `text` (required), `startMs` (required), `endMs` (required), `position` (distance from bottom in pixels, default 300), `fontSize` (default 60), `color` (default `#FFFFFF`), `backgroundColor` (optional, for example `rgba(0,0,0,0.5)`). Send the whole array as one JSON string, as in the example.

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.047 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 request with up to 26 seconds of processing.** A request that takes longer is billed one more unit for each started 26-second block (for example, 60 seconds of processing is 3 units, $0.141).
- **Example cost**: the example request took 14.7 seconds of processing, which is 1 unit ($0.047).
- Longer videos take longer to process and can use more units.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/animated-captions-text-overlays-hjunior29-video-text-generator`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/animated-captions-text-overlays-hjunior29-video-text-generator/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "336d2dc323e9b686a1615787fa15e3234bd6a6095524ce733467811d28c342dd",
    "input": {
      "video": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/frame-extractor-input-api-market.mp4",
      "caption_size": 60,
      "caption_style": "boxed",
      "text_overlays": "[{\"text\":\"SKI DAY\",\"startMs\":0,\"endMs\":2000,\"position\":380,\"fontSize\":70,\"color\":\"#FFFFFF\"},{\"text\":\"First run of the season\",\"startMs\":2200,\"endMs\":4800,\"position\":380,\"fontSize\":40,\"color\":\"#FFD700\"}]"
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "bra96fe19nrp60d1mvktpy126c",
  "version": "336d2dc323e9b686a1615787fa15e3234bd6a6095524ce733467811d28c342dd",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-11-04T14:12:48.589Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/animated-captions-text-overlays-hjunior29-video-text-generator/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "bra96fe19nrp60d1mvktpy126c",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/video-text-generator-output-bra96fe1-api-market.mp4",
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-11-04T14:12:48.589Z",
  "started_at": "2026-11-04T14:13:34.776Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-11-04T14:13:49.467Z"
}
```

`output` is a single URL string pointing to the finished MP4 video.

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `video` or a `caption_style` that is not `classic` or `boxed`.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits
Requests are rate limited to keep usage fair. If you receive a 429 response, wait and retry with exponential backoff.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

## FAQ
- **How do I add my own text?**
  - Put a JSON array in `text_overlays` as a string. Each item needs `text`, `startMs` and `endMs` (milliseconds from the start of the video); `position`, `fontSize`, `color` and `backgroundColor` are optional.
- **How do I move text to the top of the frame?**
  - Positions are measured in pixels from the bottom. The schema gives 150 as bottom, 300 as center and 500 as top for `caption_position`; use a larger `position` value on an overlay to move it up.
- **Can I write the caption text myself?**
  - No. There is no caption text field. Use `text_overlays` for any text you want to control word for word.
- **How much does a request cost?**
  - $0.047 for each started 26 seconds of processing. The example took 14.7 seconds and cost 1 unit ($0.047).
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
