# 😀 Emoji-Style Image Generator API (fofr SDXL Emoji)

## Overview
SDXL Emoji is an SDXL fine-tune by fofr; its developer describes it as based on Apple Emojis. It turns a text prompt into emoji-style images. Write prompts in the form used by the example, "A TOK emoji of a man", where `TOK` is the token the fine-tune uses for its emoji style.

Besides text-to-image, the model accepts an input `image` for img2img and a `mask` for inpainting. A request returns 1 to 4 images (`num_outputs`) as a list of URLs.

## Features
- **Emoji-style text-to-image**: describe the subject in `prompt`, for example "A TOK emoji of a man".
- **Img2img and inpainting**: send an `image` to restyle it, plus a `mask` (white areas are redrawn, black areas kept) to inpaint; `prompt_strength` sets how much changes.
- **1 to 4 images per request**: set `num_outputs`.
- **Custom size**: `width` and `height` (default 1024 x 1024).
- **Refiner options**: `no_refiner` (default), `expert_ensemble_refiner` (with `high_noise_frac`) or `base_image_refiner` (with `refine_steps`).
- **Sampling controls**: seven schedulers, `num_inference_steps` (1 to 500), `guidance_scale` (1 to 50), `lora_scale` (0 to 1) and `seed`.

## Use Cases
1. **Custom emoji and reactions**: create emoji for chat apps, community servers and comment reactions.
2. **Stickers and avatars**: generate emoji-style characters for sticker packs and profile pictures.
3. **Icons for products and marketing**: produce emoji-style icons for apps, slides and social posts.
4. **Emoji versions of an image**: send an image with img2img to redraw it in the emoji style.

## Visual Examples

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.019 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 successful request that finishes within 17 seconds of processing.** A request that takes longer is billed 1 unit for each started 17 seconds of processing time (for example, 18 seconds of processing = 2 units = $0.038).
- The example request below took 7.7 seconds of processing, so it cost $0.019 (1 unit).
- A request can return 1 to 4 images (`num_outputs`). More images, more `num_inference_steps`, larger sizes or a refiner take longer, so they can use more units.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/emoji-text-to-image-generator-fofr-sdxl-emoji`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well. The example request took about 8 seconds of processing.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/emoji-text-to-image-generator-fofr-sdxl-emoji/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "dee76b5afde21b0f01ed7925f0665b7e879c50ee718c5f78a9d38e04d523cc5e",
    "input": {
      "width": 1024,
      "height": 1024,
      "prompt": "A TOK emoji of a man",
      "refine": "no_refiner",
      "scheduler": "K_EULER",
      "lora_scale": 0.6,
      "num_outputs": 1,
      "guidance_scale": 7.5,
      "negative_prompt": "",
      "prompt_strength": 0.8,
      "num_inference_steps": 50
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "pqqqdes949rmw0d1ccqb4panwm",
  "version": "dee76b5afde21b0f01ed7925f0665b7e879c50ee718c5f78a9d38e04d523cc5e",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-22T10:35:32.137Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/emoji-text-to-image-generator-fofr-sdxl-emoji/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "pqqqdes949rmw0d1ccqb4panwm",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": [
    "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/sdxl-emoji-output-pqqqdes9-api-market.png"
  ],
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-22T10:35:32.137Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-22T10:36:06.482Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-22T10:36:14.207Z"
}
```

`output` is a list of image URLs, one per image (`num_outputs`).

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a `num_outputs` above 4 or a `scheduler` that is not in the list.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits
All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

## FAQ
- **How should I write prompts?**
  - Follow the example: "A TOK emoji of a man". `TOK` refers to the emoji style the model was fine-tuned on; replace "a man" with your subject.
- **Can I turn an existing image into an emoji?**
  - Yes. Send it as `image` (img2img). Add a `mask` to redraw only the white areas. `prompt_strength` (default 0.8) sets how much of the image changes.
- **How many images does one request return?**
  - 1 to 4, set by `num_outputs` (default 1). `output` is a list of URLs.
- **Are images watermarked?**
  - `apply_watermark` is `true` by default. Set it to `false` to turn watermarking off, as the example request does.
- **How much does a request cost?**
  - $0.019 per API unit, and one unit covers up to 17 seconds of processing. The example took about 7.7 seconds and cost $0.019.
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
