# 📸 Iconic Location Photo API (FLUX Kontext Iconic Locations)

## Overview
Iconic Locations is part of the FLUX Kontext apps collection. Its developer describes it as a way to put yourself in an iconic location around the world from a single image. You send one photo of a person in `input_image`, pick one of 66 locations (or `Random`) in `iconic_location`, and get back the URL of one image of that person at that location.

## Features
- **One photo in, one image out**: `input_image` (required) must be a jpeg, png, gif or webp file.
- **67 values for `iconic_location`** (default `Eiffel Tower`): `Random`, `Eiffel Tower`, `Times Square`, `Trevi Fountain`, `Colosseum`, `Statue of Liberty`, `Big Ben`, `Taj Mahal`, `Great Wall of China`, `Sydney Opera House`, `Machu Picchu`, `Golden Gate Bridge`, `Arc de Triomphe`, `Louvre Museum`, `Notre Dame Cathedral`, `Palace of Versailles`, `Hollywood Sign`, `Grand Canyon`, `Mount Rushmore`, `Brooklyn Bridge`, `Yosemite`, `Antelope Canyon`, `Monument Valley`, `Leaning Tower of Pisa`, `Vatican City`, `Venice`, `Florence`, `Tower Bridge`, `Buckingham Palace`, `Edinburgh Castle`, `Stonehenge`, `Scottish Highlands`, `Giant's Causeway`, `Cliffs of Moher`, `Loch Ness`, `Sagrada Familia`, `Barcelona`, `Santorini`, `Acropolis`, `Neuschwanstein Castle`, `Lisbon`, `Reykjavik`, `Blue Lagoon`, `Northern Lights`, `Pyramids of Giza`, `Forbidden City`, `Mount Fuji`, `Tokyo Tower`, `Shibuya Crossing`, `Fushimi Inari Shrine`, `Bondi Beach`, `Christ the Redeemer`, `Copacabana Beach`, `Amazon Rainforest`, `Petra`, `Angkor Wat`, `Chichen Itza`, `Burj Khalifa`, `Easter Island`, `Victoria Falls`, `Kilimanjaro`, `Maldives`, `Bora Bora`, `Bali`, `Everest Base Camp`, `Red Square`, `St. Basil's Cathedral`.
- **Gender**: `gender` is `none` (default), `male` or `female` and describes the person in the photo.
- **Aspect ratio**: `match_input_image` (default), `1:1`, `16:9`, `9:16`, `4:3`, `3:4`, `3:2`, `2:3`, `4:5`, `5:4`, `21:9`, `9:21`, `2:1` or `1:2`.
- **Output format**: `png` (default) or `jpg`.
- **Safety and reproducibility**: `safety_tolerance` from 0 (most strict) to 2 (most permissive, and the default). 2 is currently the maximum allowed. Set `seed` for reproducible generation.

## Use Cases
1. **Travel and tourism content**: show a person at landmarks for campaigns and social posts.
2. **Photo apps**: offer a "put me in Paris" or "put me in Tokyo" feature from one selfie.
3. **Event and greeting images**: create themed pictures for invitations, cards and announcements.
4. **Mockups**: preview a person in different settings before a real photo shoot.

## Visual Examples
This is a real request sent through api.market and the file it returned.

### Example Input
- `input_image`: [input photo](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/p-video-avatar-input-api-market.webp)
- `iconic_location`: `Eiffel Tower`

All other fields were left at their defaults (`gender` `none`, `aspect_ratio` `match_input_image`).

### Example Output
![The person from the input photo in a yellow jacket, standing in front of the Eiffel Tower at dusk](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/iconic-locations-output-api-market.webp)

The image shown is a resized WebP copy of the PNG file the request returned.

## Input Parameters
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Allowed values | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `input_image` | string | Yes | | URL | Image of the person to transport to an iconic location. Must be jpeg, png, gif, or webp. |
| `iconic_location` | string | No | `Eiffel Tower` | 67 values, see Features above | The iconic location to place the person in |
| `gender` | string | No | `none` | `none`, `male`, `female` | The gender of the person |
| `aspect_ratio` | string | No | `match_input_image` | `match_input_image`, `1:1`, `16:9`, `9:16`, `4:3`, `3:4`, `3:2`, `2:3`, `4:5`, `5:4`, `21:9`, `9:21`, `2:1`, `1:2` | Aspect ratio of the generated image. Use 'match_input_image' to match the aspect ratio of the input image. |
| `output_format` | string | No | `png` | `jpg`, `png` | Output format for the generated image |
| `safety_tolerance` | integer | No | `2` | 0 to 2 | Safety tolerance, 0 is most strict and 2 is most permissive. 2 is currently the maximum allowed. |
| `seed` | integer | No |  |  | Random seed. Set for reproducible generation |

### Output
`output` is the URL of one image (a string). Files are PNG by default, or JPG with `output_format` set to `jpg`.

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.05 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 output image.** Each request returns one image, so each successful request costs 1 unit, $0.05.
- The location, aspect ratio and output format do not change the price.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** (GET /api/v1/magicapi/iconic-location-image-transformer-flux-kontext-apps-iconic-locations/predictions/{id}) are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/iconic-location-image-transformer-flux-kontext-apps-iconic-locations`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`. 201 means the request was accepted; it is not an error.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/iconic-location-image-transformer-flux-kontext-apps-iconic-locations/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "b28370f84e1c5fb58dbbbabbf2d4e56f74dbea5a375288bb47cda8ee90f05dcb",
    "input": {
      "input_image": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/p-video-avatar-input-api-market.webp",
      "iconic_location": "Eiffel Tower"
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "ufawqhfynnddngldkgtslldrkq",
  "version": "b28370f84e1c5fb58dbbbabbf2d4e56f74dbea5a375288bb47cda8ee90f05dcb",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-13T10:40:12.511Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/iconic-location-image-transformer-flux-kontext-apps-iconic-locations/predictions/ufawqhfynnddngldkgtslldrkq" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "ufawqhfynnddngldkgtslldrkq",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/iconic-locations-output-api-market.webp",
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-13T10:40:12.511Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-13T10:40:13.020Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-13T10:40:21.734Z"
}
```

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `input_image` or an `iconic_location` that is not in the list.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits

All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

  const startTime = Date.now();

  while (Date.now() - startTime < maxTimeout) {
    const response = await fetch(`${baseUrl}/predictions/${predictionId}`, {
      headers: { "x-api-market-key": apiKey }
    });

    if (!response.ok) {
      throw new Error(`API error: ${response.status} ${await response.text()}`);
    }

    const prediction = await response.json();

    if (prediction.status === "succeeded") {
      return prediction.output;
    }

    if (prediction.status === "failed" || prediction.status === "canceled") {
      throw new Error(`Prediction ${prediction.status}: ${prediction.error || "Unknown error"}`);

## FAQ
- **Which locations can I use?**
  - The values listed for `iconic_location` in Features above. `Random` picks one for you. The default is `Eiffel Tower`.
- **What kind of photo works?**
  - A photo of a person as a jpeg, png, gif or webp file, passed as a URL in `input_image`.
- **How many images does one request return?**
  - One. `output` is a single image URL, billed at $0.05.
- **Is the 201 response from POST an error?**
  - No. 201 Created means the prediction was accepted. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` until `status` is `succeeded`, `failed` or `canceled`.
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
