# 🖼️ Image Question Answering API (barakplasma Jev-Omni)

## Overview
Jev-Omni answers a yes/no or multiple-choice question about an image. Send an image and a `question`; for a multiple-choice question also send the answer labels in `options_json`. The response gives the chosen `answer`, its `confidence` and a probability for every option.

Its developer describes it as returning a calibrated probability per option from one forward pass, and as ranking first on Image JevBench v0.1.

## Features
- **Two question types**: `yes_no` (default) or `choice`.
- **Multiple choice**: pass the options as a JSON array string in `options_json`, for example `["Cat","Dog"]`.
- **Probabilities per option**: the output lists every label with its probability, plus the top `answer` and its `confidence`.
- **Image by URL or base64**: send `image` (JPEG, PNG or WebP URL) or `image_base64` (plain base64 or a data URI).
- **Scene context**: add optional text about the scene in `state`.

## Use Cases
1. **Visual checks**: answer questions such as "Is a package on the doormat?" from camera snapshots.
2. **Image classification with your own labels**: pick one label from a list you define per request.
3. **Content triage**: route images by yes/no questions with a probability you can threshold.
4. **Form and catalog checks**: confirm what an uploaded photo shows before accepting it.

## Visual Examples
### Example Input
![Jev-Omni example input: a photo of a cat](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jev-omni-input-api-market.jpg)

Question: "Which animal is shown in this image?"

`question_type`: `choice`, `options_json`: `["Cat","Dog","Bird","Horse"]`, `state`: empty.

### Example Output
```json
{
  "answer": "Cat",
  "confidence": 0.9995991587638856,
  "probabilities": [
    {
      "label": "Cat",
      "probability": 0.9995991587638856
    },
    {
      "label": "Dog",
## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.0022 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 request with up to 2 seconds of processing.** A request that takes longer uses one unit per started block of 2 seconds (for example, 5 seconds of processing uses 3 units, $0.0066).
- **Example cost**: the example request took 0.66 seconds of processing, which is 1 unit, $0.0022.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**
## API Documentation
### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/image-question-answering-api-barakplasma-jev-omni`
### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```
### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).
A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well.
### Endpoints
#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/image-question-answering-api-barakplasma-jev-omni/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
      "version": "292bc2c53f4a46bec43649fb9cad4442995b370140ff357d5eea92c56a7e96bb",
      "input": {
        "image": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/jev-omni-input-api-market.jpg",
        "state": "",
        "question": "Which animal is shown in this image?",
        "options_json": "[\"Cat\",\"Dog\",\"Bird\",\"Horse\"]",
        "question_type": "choice"
      }
    }'
```
Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "v00k98feg5rmy0d1d1f8netn08",
  "version": "292bc2c53f4a46bec43649fb9cad4442995b370140ff357d5eea92c56a7e96bb",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-23T10:46:54.518Z"
}
```
#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/image-question-answering-api-barakplasma-jev-omni/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```
Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "v00k98feg5rmy0d1d1f8netn08",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": {
    "answer": "Cat",
    "confidence": 0.9995991587638856,
    "probabilities": [
      {
        "label": "Cat",
        "probability": 0.9995991587638856
      },
      {
        "label": "Dog",
        "probability": 0.00010068377014249565
      },
      {
        "label": "Bird",
        "probability": 0.000022117290427559055
      },
      {
        "label": "Horse",
        "probability": 0.0002779967908281833
      }
    ]
  },
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-23T10:46:54.518Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-23T10:50:00.276Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-23T10:50:00.936Z"
}
```
`output` is an object: `answer` (the most likely option), `confidence` (its probability) and `probabilities` (every option with its `label` and `probability`).
### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `question` or a `question_type` that is not `yes_no` or `choice`.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.
## Rate Limits
All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.
## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.
## FAQ
- **How do I ask a multiple-choice question?**
  - Set `question_type` to `choice` and pass the labels as a JSON array string in `options_json`, for example `["Cat","Dog","Bird","Horse"]`.
- **Can I send the image as base64?**
  - Yes. Leave `image` empty and send `image_base64` as plain base64 or a data URI.
- **What does the output contain?**
  - The top `answer`, its `confidence`, and a `probabilities` list with every option and its probability.
- **Does it write free-text answers?**
  - No. It only picks from yes/no or from the options you send.
- **What does one request cost?**
  - One unit ($0.0022) covers up to 2 seconds of processing. The example took 0.66 seconds, so it cost $0.0022.
