# 🎥 Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video API - Smooth Motion (PixVerse v4)

## Overview
PixVerse v4 is a video generation model from PixVerse. It turns a text prompt, optionally with a first-frame image, into a 5 or 8 second video. Its developer describes it as generating smooth videos quickly.

Send a text `prompt` to generate a video. Add an `image` to use as the first frame, and optionally a `last_frame_image` to make the video transition from the first image to the last. Each request returns the URL of one MP4 video.

## Features
- **Text to video**: describe the scene in `prompt`; list elements to avoid in `negative_prompt`.
- **Image to video**: pass `image` to set the first frame of the video.
- **First and last frame**: pass both `image` and `last_frame_image` to generate a video that transitions from one to the other.
- **Resolutions**: `quality` `360p`, `540p` (default), `720p` or `1080p`.
- **Durations**: `duration` 5 seconds (default) or 8 seconds. 1080p supports only 5 seconds.
- **Motion modes**: `motion_mode` `normal` (default) or `smooth`. Smooth videos generate more frames; smooth is only available with 5 second videos and not at 1080p.
- **Aspect ratios**: `16:9` (default), `9:16`, `1:1`.
- **Styles**: `style` `anime`, `3d_animation`, `clay`, `cyberpunk`, `comic`, or `None` (default).
- **Effects**: `effect` applies a preset effect: `Let's YMCA!`, `Subject 3 Fever`, `Ghibli Live!`, `Suit Swagger`, `Muscle Surge`, `360° Microwave`, `Warmth of Jesus`, `Emergency Beat`, `Anything, Robot`, `Kungfu Club`, `Mint in Box`, `Retro Anime Pop`, `Vogue Walk`, `Mega Dive`, `Evil Trigger`. Effects do not work with `last_frame_image`.
- **Sound effects**: set `sound_effect_switch` to `true` to add background music or sound effects, and describe them in `sound_effect_content`. Without a description a random sound effect is generated.
- **Seed**: set `seed` to reproduce a result.

## Use Cases
1. **Social video clips**: short vertical (`9:16`) or square (`1:1`) clips from a text description.
2. **Animating a still image**: bring a product photo, illustration or artwork to life by using it as the first frame.
3. **Transitions between two images**: generate the motion between a start frame and an end frame.
4. **Stylized clips**: anime, 3D animation, clay, cyberpunk or comic looks through `style`.
5. **Preset effect videos**: apply one of the named effects to a subject in an image.

## Visual Examples
### Example Input
Prompt: "a cute panda eating in the forest"

Settings: `quality` `540p`, `aspect_ratio` `16:9`, `duration` `5`, `motion_mode` `normal`. All other fields were left at their defaults (no first-frame image, no effect, sound effects off).

### Example Output
A 5 second 16:9 video at 540p generated from the prompt above.

## Input Parameters
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Allowed values | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `prompt` | string | Yes |  |  | Text prompt for video generation |
| `image` | string (URL) | No | none | | Image URL to use as the first frame of the video |
| `last_frame_image` | string (URL) | No | none | | Image URL to use as the last frame. The video transitions from image to this image. Must be used with image. |
| `quality` | string | No | `540p` | `360p`, `540p`, `720p`, `1080p` | Resolution of the video. 360p and 540p use the same number of API units; 720p and 1080p use more. |
| `aspect_ratio` | string | No | `16:9` | `16:9`, `9:16`, `1:1` | Aspect ratio of the video |
| `duration` | integer | No | `5` | `5`, `8` | Duration of the video in seconds. 8 second videos use twice as many API units as 5 second videos. 1080p does not support 8 seconds. |
| `motion_mode` | string | No | `normal` | `normal`, `smooth` | Motion mode for the video. Smooth videos generate more frames, so they use twice as many API units. Smooth is only available with a 5 second duration, and 1080p does not support smooth motion. |
| `negative_prompt` | string | No | `""` |  | Negative prompt to avoid certain elements in the video |
| `seed` | integer | No | none |  | Random seed. Set for reproducible generation |
| `style` | string | No | `None` | `None`, `anime`, `3d_animation`, `clay`, `cyberpunk`, `comic` | Style of the video |
| `effect` | string | No | `None` | `None`, `Let's YMCA!`, `Subject 3 Fever`, `Ghibli Live!`, `Suit Swagger`, `Muscle Surge`, `360° Microwave`, `Warmth of Jesus`, `Emergency Beat`, `Anything, Robot`, `Kungfu Club`, `Mint in Box`, `Retro Anime Pop`, `Vogue Walk`, `Mega Dive`, `Evil Trigger` | Special effect to apply to the video. Does not work with last_frame_image. |
| `sound_effect_switch` | boolean | No | `false` |  | Enable background music or sound effects |
| `sound_effect_content` | string | No | none | | Sound effect prompt. If not given, a random sound effect is generated. |

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.013 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = $0.013. Each request uses a number of units set by its options**: `quality`, `duration`, `motion_mode` and `sound_effect_switch`. Smooth motion or an 8 second duration doubles the units of a 5 second normal video; sound effects add 10 units.

| `quality` | `duration` | `motion_mode` | Units | Price | Units with sound effects | Price with sound effects |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `360p` or `540p` | 5 s | normal | 30 | $0.39 | 40 | $0.52 |
| `360p` or `540p` | 5 s | smooth | 60 | $0.78 | 70 | $0.91 |
| `360p` or `540p` | 8 s | normal | 60 | $0.78 | 70 | $0.91 |
| `720p` | 5 s | normal | 40 | $0.52 | 50 | $0.65 |
| `720p` | 5 s | smooth | 80 | $1.04 | 90 | $1.17 |
| `720p` | 8 s | normal | 80 | $1.04 | 90 | $1.17 |
| `1080p` | 5 s | normal | 80 | $1.04 | 90 | $1.17 |

- Smooth motion is only available with a 5 second duration, and 1080p supports only 5 second normal-motion videos.
- With all options at their defaults (`540p`, 5 seconds, `normal`, no sound effects) a request uses 30 units, or $0.39.
- **Example cost**: the example request above (540p, 5 seconds, normal motion, no sound effects) used 30 units, so it cost $0.39.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/smooth-video-generator-pixverse-pixverse-v4`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

The example 5 second video took about 26 seconds from request to result. A polling interval of 2 seconds and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/smooth-video-generator-pixverse-pixverse-v4/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "5d3d7389baa4d420ce9aaa270a8b251b3923e778dee4c51e35f8e09d815c6b36",
    "input": {
      "prompt": "a cute panda eating in the forest",
      "quality": "540p",
      "duration": 5,
      "motion_mode": "normal",
      "aspect_ratio": "16:9"
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "he6djcyjthrmy0d17ypbkv76nm",
  "version": "5d3d7389baa4d420ce9aaa270a8b251b3923e778dee4c51e35f8e09d815c6b36",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-15T13:07:33.322Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/smooth-video-generator-pixverse-pixverse-v4/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "he6djcyjthrmy0d17ypbkv76nm",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/pixverse-v4-output-api-market.mp4",
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-15T13:07:33.322Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-15T13:07:33.331Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-15T13:07:59.804Z"
}
```

`output` is a single URL string pointing to the generated MP4 video.

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `prompt` or a `quality` value that is not in the list.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits

All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Avoid unsupported combinations: 1080p with an 8 second duration or smooth motion, smooth motion with 8 seconds, `last_frame_image` without `image`, and `effect` together with `last_frame_image`.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

## FAQ
- **How much does one video cost?**
  - It depends on `quality`, `duration`, `motion_mode` and `sound_effect_switch`. A default 5 second 540p video uses 30 units ($0.39); a 5 second 1080p video uses 80 units ($1.04). Sound effects add 10 units ($0.13). See the table in Pricing.
- **Can I start the video from my own image?**
  - Yes. Pass a public image URL as `image` and it becomes the first frame. Add `last_frame_image` as well to make the video end on a second image.
- **Can the video have sound?**
  - Yes. Set `sound_effect_switch` to `true` and describe the sound in `sound_effect_content`; without a description a random sound effect is generated. Sound effects use more API units.
- **Which option combinations are not supported?**
  - 1080p supports only 5 second videos with `normal` motion, `smooth` motion needs a 5 second `duration`, `last_frame_image` must be used with `image`, and `effect` does not work with `last_frame_image`.
- **Is the 201 response from POST an error?**
  - No. 201 Created means the prediction was accepted. Use the returned `id` to poll GET `/predictions/{id}` until `status` is `succeeded`, `failed` or `canceled`.
