# 🎨 Text-to-Image Generator API (Pruna AI HiDream-L1 Dev)

## Overview
HiDream-L1 Dev is a text-to-image model served in a version optimized by Pruna AI. Its developer describes it as an optimized version of the hidream-l1-dev model built with the Pruna AI optimization toolkit.

Send a text `prompt` and choose a `resolution` and a `speed_mode`. Each request returns the URL of one image in PNG, JPG or WebP.

## Features
- **Speed modes**: `speed_mode` picks the optimization level, from `Unsqueezed 🍋 (highest quality)` through `Lightly Juiced 🍊 (more consistent)` (default) and `Juiced 🔥 (more speed)` to `Extra Juiced 🚀 (even more speed)`.
- **Seven resolutions**: square 1024 x 1024 (default), portrait 768 x 1360, 880 x 1168 and 832 x 1248, landscape 1360 x 768, 1168 x 880 and 1248 x 832.
- **Text in images**: the example prompt asks for a sign with a short command written on it.
- **Output format**: `png`, `jpg` or `webp` (default), with `output_quality` from 1 to 100 for JPG and WebP.
- **Seed**: set `seed` to reproduce a result; `-1` (default) picks a random seed.

## Use Cases
1. **Illustrations and concept art**: generate images from short descriptions.
2. **Social and marketing visuals**: pick a portrait or landscape resolution for each placement.
3. **Signs and short captions**: images that include a few words of text, as in the example.
4. **Fast drafts**: use a faster `speed_mode` while iterating on prompts, then switch to `Unsqueezed 🍋 (highest quality)` for the final image.

## Visual Examples
### Example Input
Prompt: "a purple cheetah holding a sign that says "pip install pruna""

Settings: `speed_mode` `Juiced 🔥 (more speed)`, `resolution` `1024 × 1024 (Square)`, `output_format` `jpg`, `output_quality` `80`, `seed` `-1`, `model_type` `dev`.

### Example Output

| `seed` | integer | No | `-1` |  | Random seed. `-1` picks a random seed |
| `output_format` | string | No | `webp` | `png`, `jpg`, `webp` | Output image format |
| `output_quality` | integer | No | `100` | 1 to 100 | Output quality for jpg and webp |

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.029 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 request with up to 17 seconds of processing.** A request that takes longer uses one unit per started block of 17 seconds (for example, 30 seconds of processing uses 2 units, $0.058).
- Faster `speed_mode` settings take less processing time and are the most likely to stay within one unit.
- **Example cost**: the example request took 64.6 seconds of processing, which is 4 units (4 x $0.029) = **$0.116**.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/ultra-fast-text-to-image-generator-prunaai-hidream-l1-dev`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

A polling interval of 1 second and an overall timeout of 600 seconds (10 minutes) work well.

### Endpoints

#### Create a Prediction
```bash
curl -X POST "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/ultra-fast-text-to-image-generator-prunaai-hidream-l1-dev/predictions" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY" \
  -d '{
    "version": "4dfcd146c0def4812455415f55556f6bc84025dcb15193cf1977f01bd384d191",
    "input": {
      "seed": -1,
      "prompt": "a purple cheetah holding a sign that says \"pip install pruna\"",
      "model_type": "dev",
      "resolution": "1024 × 1024 (Square)",
      "speed_mode": "Juiced 🔥 (more speed)",
      "output_format": "jpg",
      "output_quality": 80
    }
  }'
```

Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "qqgw8w4qc5rnw0d1d188fvss04",
  "version": "4dfcd146c0def4812455415f55556f6bc84025dcb15193cf1977f01bd384d191",
  "status": "starting",
  "created_at": "2026-10-23T10:31:14.733Z"
}
```

#### Check Prediction Status
```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/ultra-fast-text-to-image-generator-prunaai-hidream-l1-dev/predictions/{id}" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```

Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "qqgw8w4qc5rnw0d1d188fvss04",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/hidream-l1-dev-output-qqgw8w4q-api-market.jpeg",
  "error": null,
  "created_at": "2026-10-23T10:31:14.733Z",
  "started_at": "2026-10-23T10:34:53.871Z",
  "completed_at": "2026-10-23T10:35:58.461Z"
}
```

`output` is a single URL string pointing to the generated image.

### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `prompt`, a `resolution` or `speed_mode` that is not in the list, or an `output_quality` outside 1 to 100.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.

## Rate Limits
All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.

## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.

## FAQ
- **Which `speed_mode` should I use?**
  - `Lightly Juiced 🍊 (more consistent)` is the default. `Unsqueezed 🍋 (highest quality)` gives the highest quality; `Juiced 🔥 (more speed)` and `Extra Juiced 🚀 (even more speed)` are faster. Send the value exactly as listed, including the emoji.
- **Can I choose any image size?**
  - No. `resolution` accepts the seven listed sizes, from 1024 x 1024 square to 1360 x 768 landscape and 768 x 1360 portrait.
- **How many images does one request return?**
  - One. `output` is the URL of a single image.
- **How do I get the same image again?**
  - Send the same `prompt` and settings with a fixed `seed`. The default `-1` picks a new random seed each time.
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
