# 🎬 Video Generation and Editing API (Pruna AI VACE 14B)

## Overview
VACE 14B is a video generation and editing model that uses the Wan2.1-VACE-14B weights. This build is published by Pruna AI, whose description calls it a faster VACE-14B model, optimised with Pruna.

Send a text `prompt` and, optionally, a source video (`src_video`), a mask video or image (`src_mask`) and reference images (`src_ref_images`). The model generates or edits a video to match and returns the URL of one MP4 file. Only `prompt` is required.

## Features
- **Prompt-driven video**: describe the scene in `prompt`.
- **Video editing with a mask**: pass `src_video` and `src_mask` to change the masked areas of a clip.
- **Reference images**: pass one or more `src_ref_images` to guide the subject or look.
- **Resolutions**: `832*480` (default), `480*832`, `1280*720`, `720*1280`.
- **Length**: `frame_num` sets the number of frames (default `81`).
- **Speed modes**: `Lightly Juiced 🍊 (more consistent)` (default), `Juiced 🔥 (more speed)`, `Extra Juiced 🚀 (even more speed)`.
- **Sampling controls**: `sample_steps` (default 50), `sample_solver` (`unipc` or `dpm++`), `sample_shift` (default 16), `sample_guide_scale` (default 5) and `seed` (`-1` for random).

## Use Cases
1. **Replace or restyle part of a video**: mask a region in `src_video` and describe the new content.
2. **Subject-guided clips**: animate a character or product shown in a reference image.
3. **Short generated clips** for social media, ads or concept tests in landscape or portrait.

- `src_mask`: [Watch the mask video](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/vace-14b-input-api-market.mp4)
- `src_ref_images`: ![VACE reference image](https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/vace-14b-input-3-api-market.png)
- `prompt`: "The video shows a man riding a horse on a vast grassland. He has long lavender hair and wears a traditional dress of a white top and black pants. The animation style makes him look like he is doing some kind of outdoor activity or performing. The background is a spectacular mountain range and cloud sky, giving a sense of tranquility and vastness. The entire video is shot from a fixed angle, focusing on the rider and his horse."
- Settings: `size` `1280*720`, `frame_num` `81`, `speed_mode` `Extra Juiced 🚀 (even more speed)`, `sample_steps` `50`, `sample_solver` `unipc`, `sample_shift` `16`, `sample_guide_scale` `5`, `seed` `-1`.

## Pricing
- **Pay As You Go (PAYG) pricing**: you only pay for what you use.
- **Price**: $0.825 per API unit.
- **1 API unit = 1 successful request with up to 486 seconds of processing.** A longer job bills one more unit for each started block of 486 seconds (for example, 500 seconds of processing is 2 units, $1.65).
- Processing time grows with `size`, `frame_num` and `sample_steps`; faster `speed_mode` settings reduce it.
- **Example cost**: the example request (1280*720, 81 frames, 50 steps, `Extra Juiced`) took 276.0 seconds of processing, which is 1 unit, so $0.825.
- **Failed or cancelled predictions are not billed.**
- **GET requests to check prediction status** are free and don't count toward API unit usage.
- **No monthly subscription fee.**

## API Documentation

### Base URL
All API requests go to: `https://prod.api.market/api/v1/magicapi/video-generation-editing-prunaai-vace-14b`

### Authentication
Send your api.market API key in the `x-api-market-key` header:
```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY
```

### Asynchronous Processing
**IMPORTANT**: This API is asynchronous. The flow is:
1. Send a POST request to `/predictions`. A successful request returns **201 Created** with a prediction `id` and a `status` of `starting` or `processing`.
2. Poll GET `/predictions/{id}` with that ID.
3. Keep polling while `status` is `starting` or `processing`.
4. Stop when `status` is `succeeded` (read `output`), `failed` or `canceled` (read `error`).

Video generation takes several minutes. A polling interval of 5 seconds and an overall timeout of 1800 seconds (30 minutes) work well.

### Endpoints

```
Response (201 Created):
```json
{
  "id": "hc90mjr1fxrn80d1d8rby4ay8r",
  "version": "51299232dc3d0946d5f5ed74935d85243e172698f747d291460db1e6ef3669fb",

#### Check Prediction Status

  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_MARKET_KEY"
```
Response when the prediction has finished (200 OK):
```json
{
  "id": "hc90mjr1fxrn80d1d8rby4ay8r",
  "status": "succeeded",
  "output": "https://blog.api.market/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/vace-14b-output-hc90mjr1-api-market.mp4",

  "completed_at": "2026-10-23T19:19:09.667Z"
}
```
`output` is a single URL string pointing to the generated MP4 video.
### Status Codes
- **201 Created**: prediction created (POST `/predictions`). This is the normal success response.
- **200 OK**: prediction details returned (GET `/predictions/{id}`).
- **400 Bad Request**: invalid input, for example a missing `prompt` or a `size` that is not in the list.
- **401 Unauthorized**: missing or invalid API key.
- **404 Not Found**: no prediction with that ID.
- **429 Too Many Requests**: rate limit exceeded.
- **500 Internal Server Error** or **503 Service Unavailable**: temporary server problem; retry later.
## Rate Limits
All plans allow 10 requests per second. Requests above that return `429 Too Many Requests`; back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header. Polling a prediction with GET is free but still counts toward the per-second limit, so poll every 1 to 5 seconds rather than in a tight loop.
## Error Handling
- Check the HTTP status code of every request and read the response body for the error message.
- A prediction can also end with `status` set to `failed`; the `error` field then explains why. Failed predictions are not billed.
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 responses with exponential backoff. Fix the input before retrying a 400.
## FAQ
- **Does this model generate images?**
  - No. It generates and edits video and always returns one MP4 file URL.
- **Which inputs do I need?**
  - Only `prompt` is required. Add `src_video` and `src_mask` to edit part of an existing clip, and `src_ref_images` to guide the subject or style.
- **How do I make it faster or cheaper?**
  - Pick a faster `speed_mode`, a smaller `size` such as `832*480`, fewer `frame_num` or fewer `sample_steps`. Shorter processing keeps the job within one 486-second unit.
- **What does one request cost?**
  - $0.825 when processing takes up to 486 seconds, plus one more unit for each further started 486-second block.
- **What if my prediction fails?**
  - Failed predictions are not billed. Read the `error` field, adjust the input and try again.
