# Company Hiring Signals API

## Overview

The Company Hiring Signals API tracks the job boards of companies on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby every day and returns hiring activity as JSON. One endpoint has five modes: top_hiring ranks companies by new, open or closed jobs, companies returns the numbers and daily history of chosen companies, and new_jobs, closed_jobs and open_jobs list the postings themselves.

It is built for sales teams, recruiters, investors and analysts who use hiring as a signal of growth. Job boards only show today's postings, so this API keeps a daily archive and shows which roles opened and closed and how open jobs changed.

## Features

*   **1 endpoint, 5 modes**: `top_hiring`, `companies`, `new_jobs`, `closed_jobs` and `open_jobs`.
* **Three applicant tracking systems**: Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby boards.
*   **Job filters**: `keywords`, `location`, `department`, `remoteOnly` and `since`.
* **Daily history**: open, new and closed jobs per company per day.
* **Up to 1000 rows**: set with `limit`.
* **Rate limit**: up to 10 requests per second on every plan.

## Use Cases

* **Sales prospecting**: reach companies that are hiring for your buyer's role.
* **Recruiting**: find companies growing a team you hire for.
* **Investment research**: watch hiring as a growth signal.
* **Market maps**: see who is hiring in a sector or city.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market proxy at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/martindata/companyhiringsignals-api
```

### Authentication

Every request must include your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

### Endpoints

#### 1. Top hiring companies

Returns companies ranked by hiring activity over the lookback window, with open, new and closed jobs.

**Method:** `POST`

**Endpoint:** `/m/company-hiring-signals-history`

**Parameters:**

| Name | In | Description | Type | Required | Default | Max Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mode | body | Set to `top_hiring` | string | Yes | - | - |
| sortBy | body | Ranking for top_hiring mode: new postings, open postings, change in open postings, or closed postings over the lookback window. | string | No | - | - |
| minOpenJobs | body | Skip companies with fewer open jobs than this (top_hiring mode). Hides tiny boards. | integer | No | - | - |
| lookbackDays | body | Compare today with this many days ago (top_hiring mode). The archive starts on 2026-11-03, so the maximum useful value is the number of days since then. | integer | No | - | - |
| ats | body | Limit to companies using these systems. Empty = all three. | array of strings | No | - | - |
| limit | body | Maximum number of rows to return (1 to 1000). You pay per result. | integer | No | 20 | 100 |

## Status Codes

| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 200 | OK | The request succeeded and the response body holds the result. |
| 400 | Bad Request | A required parameter is missing or a value is invalid. Check the parameter table for the endpoint. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` header is missing or the key is not valid. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your key is valid but your subscription does not allow this request, for example an endpoint outside your plan. |
| 404 | Not Found | The path does not exist, or the resource you asked for was not found. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You sent more than 10 requests per second. Slow down and retry, honouring the `Retry-After` header. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | Something went wrong while processing the request. Retry after a short wait. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | The service or its upstream data source is temporarily unavailable. Retry with backoff. |

## Rate Limits

Every plan allows up to 10 requests per second. Subscription plans also have a monthly call quota shown on the pricing page. Sending more than 10 requests per second returns `429 Too Many Requests`. Throttle your client to stay under 10 requests per second, back off and retry when you get a 429, and honour the `Retry-After` header when it is present.

## FAQ

* **Which mode should I use?**

    Use `top_hiring` to rank companies, `companies` for chosen companies with history, and the job modes to list postings.

*   **Which companies are covered?**

    Companies whose job boards run on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby.

* **How far back does the history go?**

    The archive starts on 2026-11-03 and grows by one snapshot a day.

* **How long does a call take?**

    Most calls answer in 5 to 30 seconds because the data is fetched live. Some modes can take up to a minute or more on large inputs, so set your client timeout to at least 150 seconds.

*   **Are repeated requests cached?**

    Yes. An identical request made within 6 hours returns the cached result straight away.
