# Shopify App Store Tracker API

## Overview

The Shopify App Store Tracker API keeps a daily archive of the Shopify App Store and returns review velocity, category ranks and app details as JSON. One endpoint has five modes: velocity ranks apps by reviews gained, category returns the ranked list of a category with rank changes, apps returns chosen apps, new lists apps added or removed, and categories lists every category with its app count.

It is built for Shopify app developers, agencies and investors who want to see which apps are growing and how ranks move. The App Store only shows today's numbers, so this API compares each day with earlier snapshots to show reviews gained and rank changes.

## Features

*   **1 endpoint, 5 modes**: `velocity`, `category`, `apps`, `new` and `categories`.
* **Review velocity**: reviews gained over `lookbackDays`.
* **Category ranks**: rank in each category and how it changed.
* **App details**: developer, rating, review count, pricing and Built for Shopify status.
* **Up to 1000 rows**: set with `limit`.
* **Rate limit**: up to 10 requests per second on every plan.

## Use Cases

* **Competitor tracking**: watch reviews and ranks of rival apps.
* **Market research**: find categories with fast-growing apps.
* **Launch monitoring**: see new and delisted apps.
* **Investor research**: spot apps gaining traction.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market proxy at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/martindata/shopifyappstoretrack-api
```

### Authentication

Every request must include your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

### Endpoints

#### 1. Review velocity

Returns apps ranked by reviews gained over the lookback window, with their ratings, categories and ranks.

**Method:** `POST`

**Endpoint:** `/m/shopify-app-store-tracker`

**Parameters:**

| Name | In | Description | Type | Required | Default | Max Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mode | body | Set to `velocity` | string | Yes | - | - |
| category | body | Leaf category slug or full apps.shopify.com/categories URL. Required in category mode, optional filter in velocity mode (empty = all apps). Get all slugs with mode categories. | string | No | - | - |
| lookbackDays | body | Compare today with this many days ago (velocity mode). The archive starts on 2026-11-03, so the maximum useful value is the number of days since then. | integer | No | - | - |
| minReviews | body | Skip apps with fewer total reviews than this (velocity mode). Use it to hide brand-new apps with a handful of reviews. | integer | No | - | - |
| limit | body | Maximum number of rows to return (1 to 1000). You pay per result. | integer | No | 20 | 100 |

**Example Request:**

```bash
## Status Codes
| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 200 | OK | The request succeeded and the response body holds the result. |
| 400 | Bad Request | A required parameter is missing or a value is invalid. Check the parameter table for the endpoint. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` header is missing or the key is not valid. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your key is valid but your subscription does not allow this request, for example an endpoint outside your plan. |
| 404 | Not Found | The path does not exist, or the resource you asked for was not found. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You sent more than 10 requests per second. Slow down and retry, honouring the `Retry-After` header. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | Something went wrong while processing the request. Retry after a short wait. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | The service or its upstream data source is temporarily unavailable. Retry with backoff. |
## Rate Limits
Every plan allows up to 10 requests per second. Subscription plans also have a monthly call quota shown on the pricing page. Sending more than 10 requests per second returns `429 Too Many Requests`. Throttle your client to stay under 10 requests per second, back off and retry when you get a 429, and honour the `Retry-After` header when it is present.
## FAQ
*   **Which mode should I use?**
    Use `velocity` for apps gaining reviews, `category` for a ranked category list, `apps` for chosen apps, `new` for added or removed apps and `categories` for the list of category slugs.
*   **How far back does the archive go?**
    The archive starts on 2026-11-03 and grows by one snapshot a day, so `lookbackDays` is limited by the archive age.
*   **Where do I find an app handle?**
    It is the last part of the app's URL, for example `judgeme` in `apps.shopify.com/judgeme`.
*   **How long does a call take?**
    Most calls answer in 5 to 30 seconds because the data is fetched live. Some modes can take up to a minute or more on large inputs, so set your client timeout to at least 150 seconds.
*   **Are repeated requests cached?**
    Yes. An identical request made within 6 hours returns the cached result straight away.
