# EmailCheck Email Validation API

## Overview

The EmailCheck API validates email addresses and returns a clear verdict for each one: `valid`, `risky` or `invalid`, a score from 0 to 100, and the checks behind it. It checks syntax, whether the domain exists and has MX records, and flags disposable, role and free-provider addresses, likely typos with a suggested fix, the domain's age from RDAP records and a catch-all risk signal.

It is built for sign-up forms, CRMs, marketing teams and data cleaning jobs that need to stop bad addresses before they cost money. Validate one address per call, or send up to 100 in a batch and get every result plus a summary of how many are valid, risky, invalid, disposable or likely typos. It does not connect to mailboxes, so it never sends mail or probes SMTP servers.

## Features

* **4 endpoints**: service status, validate one address by GET or POST, and batch validation.
*   **Verdict and score**: `valid`, `risky` or `invalid`, with a 0 to 100 score.
* **Domain checks**: domain exists, MX records and domain age from RDAP.
* **Risk signals**: disposable, role account, free provider and catch-all risk.
* **Typo suggestions**: a corrected address when the domain looks misspelled.
* **Batch of 100**: every result plus a summary report.
* **Rate limit**: up to 10 requests per second on every plan.

## Use Cases

* **Sign-up forms**: block invalid and disposable addresses at registration.
* **List cleaning**: check a mailing list before a campaign.
* **CRM hygiene**: flag risky contacts and fix typos.
* **Lead scoring**: use the score to rank inbound leads.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market proxy at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/visionwell/emailcheck
```

### Authentication

Every request must include your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

### Endpoints

#### 1. Service status

Returns the service name and the list of endpoints. Use it to confirm the API is reachable.

**Method:** `GET`

**Endpoint:** `/`

**Parameters:** None.

**Example Request:**

```bash
curl -X GET 'https://prod.api.market/api/v1/visionwell/emailcheck/' \
  -H 'x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY'
```

**Example Response (200 OK):**

```json
{
  "ok": true,
  "service": "EmailCheck API",
  "endpoints": [
    "POST /validate {email}",
    "GET /validate?email=",
    "POST /validate/batch {emails:[...]}"
  ]
}
```

#### 2. Validate one address (GET)

## Status Codes

| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 200 | OK | The request succeeded and the response body holds the result. |
| 400 | Bad Request | A required parameter is missing or a value is invalid. Check the parameter table for the endpoint. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` header is missing or the key is not valid. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your key is valid but your subscription does not allow this request, for example an endpoint outside your plan. |
| 404 | Not Found | The path does not exist, or the resource you asked for was not found. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You sent more than 10 requests per second. Slow down and retry, honouring the `Retry-After` header. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | Something went wrong while processing the request. Retry after a short wait. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | The service or its upstream data source is temporarily unavailable. Retry with backoff. |

## Rate Limits

Every plan allows up to 10 requests per second. Subscription plans also have a monthly call quota shown on the pricing page. Sending more than 10 requests per second returns `429 Too Many Requests`. Throttle your client to stay under 10 requests per second, back off and retry when you get a 429, and honour the `Retry-After` header when it is present.

## FAQ

* **What is the difference between risky and invalid?**

    `invalid` means the address cannot receive mail, for example bad syntax or no MX records. `risky` means it can receive mail but has a warning sign, such as a disposable domain.

* **Does it check whether the mailbox exists?**

    No. It checks the domain's mail routing and risk signals but does not connect to the mail server, so `catchAllRisk` is an estimate, not a probe.

*   **Why is domainAgeDays null?**

    RDAP has no registration record for that domain. The value is never estimated.

* **Does one bad address fail a batch?**

    No. A bad entry is marked invalid and the rest of the batch is validated as normal.
