# WeatherNow API

## Overview

WeatherNow returns weather by city name, so your application does not need coordinates. One endpoint gives current conditions, one gives a day-by-day forecast, and one looks up places by name. Every weather response also includes the resolved location with its country, region, timezone, latitude and longitude, so you can confirm which place the answer is for.

It is built for travel apps, logistics dashboards, event planning and smart-home tools that need dependable weather in a simple JSON shape. Weather data is by MET Norway (CC BY 4.0) and geocoding is from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Each response carries an attribution field for you to show alongside the data.

## Features

* **3 endpoints**: current weather, daily forecasts and place search.
* **City name lookup**: send a city name and get its weather with the resolved location.
* **Current conditions**: temperature, feels-like, humidity, precipitation, wind, pressure and condition.
* **Daily forecasts**: high and low temperature, condition, wind, sunrise and sunset.
* **Attribution included**: each response carries the data source and attribution text.
* **Data sources**: MET Norway (CC BY 4.0) and OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
* **Rate limit**: up to 10 requests per second on every plan.

## Use Cases

* **Travel apps**: show the weather for a destination by name.
* **Logistics teams**: check conditions along delivery cities.
* **Event planners**: review the forecast for an outdoor date.
* **Retail analysts**: compare weather against store traffic.
* **Smart-home builders**: trigger automations from local conditions.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market proxy at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/visionwell/weathernow
```

### Authentication

Every request must include your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

## Status Codes

| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 200 | OK | The request succeeded and the response body holds the result. |
| 400 | Bad Request | A required parameter is missing or a value is invalid. Check the parameter table for the endpoint. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` header is missing or the key is not valid. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your key is valid but your subscription does not allow this request, for example an endpoint outside your plan. |
| 404 | Not Found | No location matched the city name. The response code is `CITY_NOT_FOUND`. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You sent more than 10 requests per second. Slow down and retry, honouring the `Retry-After` header. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | Something went wrong while processing the request. Retry after a short wait. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | The service or its upstream data source is temporarily unavailable. Retry with backoff. |

## Rate Limits

Every plan allows up to 10 requests per second. Subscription plans also have a monthly call quota shown on the pricing page. Sending more than 10 requests per second returns `429 Too Many Requests`. Throttle your client to stay under 10 requests per second, back off and retry when you get a 429, and honour the `Retry-After` header when it is present.

## FAQ

*   **Do I need coordinates?**

    No. Send a city name and the response includes the coordinates it resolved.

* **Why does `/search` return few results for a short name?**

    It looks for places that match the name you send, so `Guang` returns a place called Guang rather than Guangzhou. Use the fuller name for the best match.

* **Why is a forecast field null?**

    A field such as `precipitationProbabilityMaxPercent` is null when the weather source does not provide that value.

* **Do I have to show attribution?**

    The data is licensed under CC BY 4.0 and ODbL, so show the text from the `attribution` field where you display the data.
