# Text to Image Converter API

## Overview

The Text to Image Converter API draws a line of text onto an image. It is not an AI image generator: it renders the exact text you send in the font, size, style and colours you choose, and returns the result as a PNG. It has 2 endpoints that take the same query parameters. `/api/TextToImage/ImgFile` returns the PNG file itself, ready to save or serve. `/api/TextToImage/ImgTag` returns an HTML `<img>` tag with the same image embedded as a base64 data URI, ready to paste into a web page or email without hosting a file.

It is built for developers who need simple text graphics on the fly: labels, badges, banners, placeholder images, text watermarks and images of contact details that should not appear as plain text on a page. You control the image width and height, or set them to `0` to size the image to the text, plus the text and background colours as hex values, the font name and size, and bold or italic. In our tests a 400 by 120 pixel banner with white bold text on a blue background came back as a 2,200 byte PNG in about 3.7 seconds, and an auto-sized italic image came back as 219 by 59 pixels.

## Features

* **2 endpoints**: Text to PNG file and text to HTML image tag.
* **Exact text rendering**: The image shows the text you send, drawn with a standard font, not generated by AI.
* **Custom size**: Set `imgWidth` and `imgHeight` in pixels, or `0` to size the image to the text.
* **Colours**: Set the text colour (`foreColor`) and background colour (`backColor`) as hex values such as `#1E3A8A`.
*   **Font options**: Choose `fontName`, `fontSize`, `isBold` and `isItalic`.
* **PNG output**: The file endpoint returns `image/png`; the tag endpoint returns the PNG as base64 inside an `<img>` tag.
* **Rate limit**: 10 requests per second on the Free plan, 50 on Pro and 500 on Mega.

## Use Cases

* **Banners and labels**: Create simple text banners, buttons, badges and labels without a design tool.
* **Placeholder images**: Generate images that show a size or a caption while real images are missing.
* **Protected contact details**: Show email addresses or phone numbers as images so simple scrapers cannot read them as text.
* **Email and HTML content**: Embed a text image straight into HTML with the `<img>` tag endpoint, with no file hosting.
* **Watermark text**: Create text images to overlay on photos or documents.
* **Dynamic headings**: Render headings in a chosen font and colour for places where custom web fonts are not available.

## API Documentation

### Base URL

All requests go through the API.market gateway at this base URL:

```
https://prod.api.market/api/v1/zsmartsoft/text-to-image-api
```

### Authentication

Every request needs your API.market key in the `x-api-market-key` header:

```
x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY
```

Replace `YOUR_API_KEY` with your actual API key.

### Endpoints

#### 1. Text to image file

Draws the text and returns the image as a PNG file. URL-encode the text and the colour values (`#` becomes `%23`).

**Method:** `GET`

**Endpoint:** `/api/TextToImage/ImgFile`

**Parameters:**

| Name | In | Description | Type | Required | Default | Max Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| `text` | query | The text to draw on the image. | string | Yes | - | - |
| `imgWidth` | query | Image width in pixels. `0` sizes the width to the text. | integer | No | 300 | - |
| `imgHeight` | query | Image height in pixels. `0` sizes the height to the text. | integer | No | 300 | - |
| `foreColor` | query | Text colour as a hex value starting with `#`, with two digits per colour, for example `#000000`. | string | No | #000000 | - |
| `backColor` | query | Background colour as a hex value starting with `#`, for example `#FFFFFF`. | string | No | #FFFFFF | - |
| `fontSize` | query | Font size. | integer | No | 12 | - |
| `fontName` | query | Font name, for example `Arial`. | string | No | Arial | - |
| `isBold` | query | Draw the text in bold. | boolean | No | false | - |
| `isItalic` | query | Draw the text in italic. | boolean | No | false | - |

**Example Request:**

```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/zsmartsoft/text-to-image-api/api/TextToImage/ImgFile?text=Hello%20from%20API.market&imgWidth=400&imgHeight=120&foreColor=%23FFFFFF&backColor=%231E3A8A&fontSize=24&fontName=Arial&isBold=true&isItalic=false" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -o banner.png
```

The response is the PNG image (`image/png`), which the `-o` option saves to `banner.png`. In our test this request returned a 400 by 120 pixel PNG of 2,200 bytes showing "Hello from API.market" in white bold text on a dark blue background.

#### 2. Text to HTML image tag

Draws the text and returns an HTML `<img>` tag with the PNG embedded as a base64 data URI. It takes the same parameters as endpoint 1. The response is plain text, not JSON. The data URI in the tag starts with `data:image/;base64,` without the word `png`; if your code or browser needs the full type, replace it with `data:image/png;base64,`.

**Method:** `GET`

**Endpoint:** `/api/TextToImage/ImgTag`

**Parameters:**

| Name | In | Description | Type | Required | Default | Max Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| `text` | query | The text to draw on the image. | string | Yes | - | - |
| `imgWidth` | query | Image width in pixels. `0` sizes the width to the text. | integer | No | 300 | - |
| `imgHeight` | query | Image height in pixels. `0` sizes the height to the text. | integer | No | 300 | - |
| `foreColor` | query | Text colour as a hex value starting with `#`, for example `#000000`. | string | No | #000000 | - |
| `backColor` | query | Background colour as a hex value starting with `#`, for example `#FFFFFF`. | string | No | #FFFFFF | - |

```bash
curl -X GET "https://prod.api.market/api/v1/zsmartsoft/text-to-image-api/api/TextToImage/ImgTag?text=Test-123&imgWidth=300&imgHeight=300&foreColor=%23000000&backColor=%23FFFFFF&fontSize=12&fontName=Arial&isBold=false&isItalic=false" \
  -H "x-api-market-key: YOUR_API_KEY"
```

**Example Response (200 OK, abridged):**

```html
<img src="data:image/;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAASwAAAEsCAYAAAB5fY51AAAAAXNSR0IArs4c6QAAAARnQU1BAACxjwv8YQUAAAAJcEhZcwAADsMAAA7DAcdvqGQAAAWFSURBVHhe7dpRbqJQGIBRl+eCXI576Va6E8cKtloBtWmT...gAzBAjIEC8gQLCBDsIAMwQIiDod/ws3/K7oIlF0AAAAASUVORK5CYII=" />
```

The full response in our test was 2,061 characters: a 300 by 300 pixel image showing "Test-123" in black on white.

## Status Codes

| Code | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 200 | OK | The image was created. Endpoint 1 returns the PNG file (`image/png`), and endpoint 2 returns the `<img>` tag as plain text. |
| 400 | Bad Request | The request could not be processed, for example `text` is missing or a colour is not a valid hex value. The provider returns `{"status":"Failure","error":"..."}` with the reason. |
| 401 | Unauthorized | The `x-api-market-key` value is invalid or expired. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Your subscription does not include this endpoint. |
| 404 | Not Found | The path does not exist. Check that you are calling `/api/TextToImage/ImgFile` or `/api/TextToImage/ImgTag` under the base URL. |
| 429 | Too Many Requests | You went over your plan's requests-per-second limit, or you have used all 5 calls of the Free plan. |
| 500 | Internal Server Error | Something failed while drawing the image. The provider returns a `Failure` response with an `error` description. Retry after a short delay. |

## Rate Limits

The Free plan allows 10 requests per second, the Pro plan 50 and the Mega plan 500. The Free plan includes 5 calls in total over a 7-day trial, Pro includes 30,000 calls a month and Mega 300,000. On the Free plan the limit is hard, so requests after the 5th return `429 Too Many Requests`. On Pro and Mega you can keep calling after the included calls are used, and each extra call is billed at $0.001. Requests above your plan's per-second limit also return `429`. Back off before retrying and honour any `Retry-After` header.

## FAQ

**Is this an AI image generator?**

No. It draws the exact text you send onto a plain background in a standard font. Use an AI text to image model if you want pictures generated from a description.

**How do I make the image fit the text?**

Set `imgWidth=0` and `imgHeight=0`. The image is then sized to the text at the chosen font size. In our test "Auto size" in 36 point italic came back as 219 by 59 pixels.

**How do I pass colours?**

As hex values that start with `#` and have two digits for each of red, green and blue, for example `#1E3A8A`. In a URL the `#` must be encoded as `%23`, so send `foreColor=%23FFFFFF`.

**Which endpoint should I use?**

Use `/api/TextToImage/ImgFile` when you want a PNG file to save or serve. Use `/api/TextToImage/ImgTag` when you want to drop the image straight into HTML without hosting a file.

**Which fonts can I use?**

Set `fontName` to a common font such as `Arial`, which is the default. We tested Arial; check the result if you use a less common font.

**What image format is returned?**

PNG. The file endpoint returns the PNG itself, and the tag endpoint returns the same PNG as base64 text inside an `<img>` tag.
